INSPIRATION

The inspiration for my work is derived from forms, textures and surfaces found in eroded rock, and the landscape of antiquity: architecture, culture and worship.

I have always been greatly inspired by rock structure and the powers and forces of the geological process .

More recently my interests have started focussing on the ancient human landscape – standing stones, churches and graves – forms that have been hewn from stone, then subjected to erosion over hundreds or maybe thousands of years.

These forms touch me on two levels – the direct visual and tactile richness and their meaning – forms that possess powerful spiritual significance, sometimes still understood, but often lost through the passage of time.
